LinkedIn Images 101

How crucial is it to include images in our LinkedIn posts? While LinkedIn has traditionally focused on text, incorporating images can significantly enhance your posts. Adding visuals not only helps to attract a broader audience but also taps into different demographics.

It's worth noting that in various sections of LinkedIn, especially in posts and profiles, there's often a placeholder for an image. While it's not mandatory to replace these placeholders with your own image, using the default LinkedIn image can be less appealing and means missing out on a prime marketing opportunity.

Instead, consider adding your own logo, photo, or another relevant image to establish your authority and give your audience another way to connect with you. Think of it this way: you wouldn’t attend a meeting or interview wearing someone else’s shirt, so why settle for the default LinkedIn image? Personalize it to share something about yourself.

To help save you time, I’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to the necessary image sizes for different LinkedIn sections, categorized for easier reference.

Note that personal profiles and company pages have different requirements:

  • Profile Picture: 400 x 400

  • Banner or Background Photo: 1584 x 396 (Watch out for 'danger zones' when designing your banner. More info here.)
